Steve Jobs introduced the world to his new company, NeXT Inc. Founder and CEO debuted the NeXT Computer at Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco. Fans , journalists, clients and the curious packed into the hall to listen to Jobs for the next few hours. A small number of NeXT Information Kits were produced.
Important clients and tech writers/journalists. To commemorate this occasion Jobs added his autograph to a few of the kits' included black and white press photos. I acquired this kit personally at a Silicon Valley estate sale in Los Altos, California last week. Los Altos is also home to the Apple garage, located at 2066 Crist Drive, which is now a designated historical landmark. The estate was home to a longtime Los Altos resident and the kit was in the garage along with mountains of other dust-covered boxes of vintage items.
I imagine that this kit sat untouched for almost three decades until I found it. The box is about the same size as a record album and the top flap opens to FIVE separate folders. Each folder contains multiple pages of information about the company and computers and the Photographs folder includes a sleeve of five color slides, a slide caption sheet and a black and white portrait of Steve Jobs. The contents of the kit are in basically As New condition and the only real issue with this kit is the external box.Its been flattened it seems and there are some creases at the top and bottom but the folders but the files are all terrific. The signature is in black marker and its bold and clear. I have done some fair amount of research on Steve Jobs autograph and in looking at confirmed instances of his signature its clearly signed by him. Since some signatures are printed with the photo I wanted to be sure this wasn't one of those.
This has been examined thoroughly by professional photographers and film developers/processors. The signature has been so thoroughly scrutinized that I'm fine saying it's GUARANTEED to be genuine. It is absolutely not mechanically signed nor is it a reprinted / reproduced signature. Another cool thing inside the kit is the NeXT Computer vinyl sticker sheet. There are about 15 color stickers on a transparent plastic sheet and they are bright and colorful as the day they were new.
One of them does seem to have some white residue on it but it looks like that will wipe off easily enough. I forgot to include the NeXT bandanna/scarf that I got too and figure it should got along with this kit too.
It's about 1.5' x 1.5' and there are a bunch of color NeXT logos on a white fabric. It seems to be unused and it's cool.
